Bacteriological Evaluation of Aloe vera L. Fresh Gel on Experimental Infected Full-Thickness Open Wounds Induced with Staphylococcus aureus in Dogs
Authors
Abstract:
Objective - to evaluate both in-vivo and in-vitro antibacterial property of Aloe vera.L fresh gel. Design - experimental study. Animals - five adult male mixed breed dogs aged 2-4 years. Procedures - for in-vivo experiment, under general anesthesia and sterile condition 8 symmetrical full-thickness wounds measured 2 cm×2 cm were surgically created on the back of each dogs on 0, 7, 13 and 21 days of study. After wound creation, 1 ml fluid contains 105 CFU Staphylococcus aureus was inoculated on each wound. Right wounds in all dogs were covered with 1 ml Aloe vera fresh gel whereas the left wounds were not received any treatment. Antibacterial activity of Aloe vera gel was evaluated on days 7, 15, 21 and 28 by wound biopsies. Antimicrobial susceptibility test was applied for in-vitro evaluation. For this purpose, measurement of inhibition zone of Aloe vera gel was compared to some commercially available antibiotic discs. Results - no significant differences were seen by counting viable bacteria between the treatment and control wounds at the particular days of the period study (P > 0.05). The gel inhibited the growth of S.aureus by appearance of 12 mm inhibitory zone. Conclusions and Clinical Relevance - Aloe vera has antibacterial property against S.areus.

full textEvaluation of antibiotic activity of methicillin in healing of full-thickness infected wounds with sensitized methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus in presence of HAMLET
Objective(s): The novel healing choices for handling of infections due to multidrug resistant Staphylococcus aureus are reguired. HAMLET has been reported to be able to sensitize bacterial pathogens to traditional antimicrobial agents. The aim was to assess wound healing activity of methicillin in presence of HAMLET in methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) infected wounds. Materials and Method...
full textEffects of silver nanoparticles on Staphylococcus aureus contaminated open wounds healing in mice: An experimental study
The microorganisms have been noted as the main cause of delayed wound healing. The most common pathogen causing the wound infections is Staphylococcus aureus. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) show ample antibacterial activities. In the present study, the effect of AgNPs on mouse wounds inoculated with S. aureus was investigated. Sixty male mice (20 to 30 g) were anesthetized, full-...
full textInfluence of Ferula assa-foetida Loaded Chitosan Nanoparticle Biofilm on Wound Healing in Full-Thickness Wounds Infected with Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus
Objective- Cutaneous wound healing is an essential physiological process consisting of the collaboration of many cell strains and their products. Initiation of new management for treatment of wound infections caused by multidrug resistant Staphylococcus aureus is required. The aim of the present study was to assess wound healing activity of Ferula assa-foetida...
full textCosmetic Attributes of Aloe vera L. Gel
Aloe vera L. (syn. A. barbadensis Miller.) is a perennial succulent plant belonging to the Liliaceae family. The plant is known traditionally as the “healing plant” and is claimed to possess wound-healing, burn-healing, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, antiallergic, anti-diabetic, and UV protective properties. Due to these therapeutic properties A. vera is being used in a vari...
